What's the Difference Between Paleo and Atkins Diet?

If you have ever wondered...how is the Paleo diet different from Atkins, then todays post should be helpful for you?

Towards the end I will mention a new project I’ve been working on, an online course called the Paleo Cleanse.

Let's get started with what the Paleo diet is.

There are two ways of looking at the Paleo diet. It can be considered either an exclusion diet or and inclusion diet. Exclusion is saying "No" to grains, dairy, refined sugar, vegetable oils, legumes, processed foods. Inclusion is saying "Yes" to lean proteins, whole foods, fruits and vegetables, and healthy fats.

Living a Paleo or Ancesterol Lifestyle goes deeper than the diet. Everything is connected in the Paleo Lifestyle: based on real-food consumption, unplugging from electronics once in a while, face-to-face social bonding or connections, getting out in the sun, playing and moving, resting, and giving your body a chance to thrive.

Now the Atkins diet.

A diet that has been around since the 70's, is very low carbohydrate meant to put you into a state of ketosis for rapid weight loss. Atkins diet is a highly restrictive diet, and only meant to be followed for a short period of time until you slowly increase your carbohydrates to a level that will help you maintain your weight.

Now let's compare the two.

These two diets have some similiarities between the foods to include (meat, vegetables, and fats) and the foods to avoid (grains), but Atkins is a diet for weight loss, while Paleo is a diet for health. Atkins is focused primarily on macronutrient ratios, while Paleo is focused primarily on food quality (eating plenty of nutrients while avoiding toxins).

What you should know.

Going on an Atkins diet can make eating a chore! Carb-counting and keeping track can become overwhelming and make you want to abandon all your efforts. Paleo is easier in the fact that it doesn’t rely on that kind of carb-counting. Don’t fall into this trap. If you want to be healthy without requiring carb-counting Paleo might be for you, enjoy your food instead of stressing about numbers.

At the beginning of the article I mentioned a new project I am working on called the Paleo Cleanse, a 30-day program. It is 30 days of Paleo eating to detox, drops pounds, reset your body and health, and start feeling great.
